Recently I was amazed to discover how many U.S. senators and representatives were over the age of 80. It’s not a problem—if they are still serving us rather than themselves and special interests. In I Samuel 15, God rejected Saul as king because of his sin. Yet, he served nearly another 40 years as the king making life miserable for David and Israel. His attention for those forty years was on protecting and exalting himself instead of serving Israel. A.W. Tozer said, “The victorious Christian neither exalts nor downgrades himself. His interests have shifted from self to Christ.”
